The Ugly Duckling
Words that Rhyme with Orange at Capitol School of Performing Arts in New Brunswick, Canada. Directed by Alicia Verona Potter. Photographer:  Greg Agnew.  (2011)

The Ugly Duckling at SCEP in Kettering, Ohio.  Directed by Stacey Lane.  (2015)

Synopsis:

With the sun and the moon serving as storytellers, this classic tale of transformation comes to life. An out-of-place baby swan does not fit in with her adorable, but mean-spirited duckling siblings. She takes flight to discover new friends and her true self. This educational play has a large flexible cast and includes movement and group recitation for younger actors who struggle with reading and memorizing lines. This script is perfect for classroom performance and lends itself to puppet and mask work.

Words that Rhyme with Orange was created through a partnership with Zoot Theatre Company and Cityfolk.  Second, seventh, and eight graders at Cleveland School participated in workshops lead by Stacey Lane.  The students came up with basic plot and characters and Lane wrote this play based on their ideas.
